One of the most valuable aspects our clients find in working with MCG is the experiential learning opportunities that we incorporate into our consulting and coaching model. At the heart of all learning is the way we process what we experience, especially our critical reflections on those experiences. Though there is no one consistent definition of experiential education, it is well described by the Association of Experiential Education: "it is a process through which a learner constructs knowledge, skill and value from direct experiences".
Experiential learning engages participants in critical thinking, problem solving and decision making in contexts that are personally relevant and connected to specific learning objectives by incorporating active learning. This approach requires creating opportunities for debriefing and consolidation of ideas and skills through reflection, feedback and the application of the ideas and skills to new situations. Effective experiential education requires a well-designed, multi-disciplinary and interactive learning approach that involves the all aspects of your organization and ours in the sequential steps of planning, experiencing or doing, sharing, processing, generalizing, feedback and applying to further and future planning. Experiential Learning creates a place for us to access different aspects of ourselves and our organizations, which encourages different perspectives on our situation. This different view taps into additional resources we didn't know we had, and enables new solutions and outcomes.
